Marlyn was born in India, but moved to North America at the age of four. She grew up in various small towns in Alberta, Canada, but considers Edmonton her hometown. She first started reviewing books for The Edmonton Journal in the mid-1980s, then was a bookseller in Edmonton until the early 1990s, when she returned to the University of Alberta to get her Master of Library and Information Studies. Her new career took her to Northern Saskatchewan, Boston, and then to Southern California.
As a children’s and teen services librarian, Marlyn has reviewed books for Emergency Librarian and School Library Journal and continues to review young adult literature for VOYA. She now works part-time at a hospital library, and at her local public library. Marlyn started a blog to document a family trip to Ireland, but Stuff and Nonsense now primarily focuses on book reviews, most of which are mysteries.
Marlyn has been active in the mystery community for many years, can be found on Dorothy L, and most years at Left Coast Crime. Marlyn and her husband Tod live in Southern California.
